How It All Began

It all began back in 1981 with a man named Ray and a desire to create communities of homes that live “side by side with nature-not at it’s expense.” Ray Engel was a real estate developer with a bigger dream. His goal was to provide the most eco-friendly housing possible. “I found that showers were especially wasteful users of water and water heating energy, and major contributors to the burden on community sewage systems,” he says.

Engel was stumped by the poor quality of the few truly efficient water-fixtures on the market. Low-flow showerheads were the laughing stock of the utilities industry. Sure, they saved water, but delivered such a scant trickle that most consumers avoided using them. Taking matters into his own hands, Engel founded ETL® to manufacture high-caliber fixtures that would be both energy efficient and people pleasing. Oxygenics® are now one of the leading showerheads on the market today.

After years of successfully manufacturing showerheads, ETL® began to realize the growing need for household solutions to contemporary problems. With identity theft, burglaries, and increased need for firearm safety on the rise, ETL® began to engineer and design products that would fill this niche in the market. This lead to the birth of the SecureLogic™ division of ETL®. These products devote their lives keeping families safe and secure.

Today, ETL® continues to back up the passion and commitment we’ve had since 1981 with excellent products and innovative solutions. We have been defining the art of innovation for the last 20 years and will continue to do so for years to come!
